The Farmworker Housing Loans and Grants program provides equity financing for housing development for domestic farmworkers. These farmworker housing loans and grants are made for the purchase, construction, improvement, or repair of housing for farmers, including those working in aquaculture (fish and oyster farms) and those engaged in agricultural processing. . Funds can be used to purchase land or pay rental interest on a property, to build a home, day care centers, community halls; pay furniture installments; and pay the interest on the construction loan.
Loans are granted to: visit
- Farmers; and
- Farmers’ associations; and
- family farm corporations; and
- indigenous tribes; and
- Nonprofit organizations; and
- Public agencies; and
- Farm workers associations.
Borrowers usually can’t get credit elsewhere, but in some cases, farmers who can get credit elsewhere may be able to get loans at an interest rate based on the cost of federal loans. Grants are awarded to:
- Farm Workers Associations; and
- Nonprofit organizations; and
- indigenous tribes; and
- Public agencies.
Loan Terms
The loans are for 33 years at 1 percent interest. Grants can cover up to 90 percent of development costs. The balance may be a Farm Worker Housing Loan Program.
