Charity Cars 1-800

FreeCharityCars is a partnership between 1-800-Charity and FreeCharityCars that provides free cars to people in need.

The former accepts donated cars and collects cash to offer free cars to people in need, while the latter accepts applications from those looking for a car.

FreeCharityCars is currently inundated with applications and cannot accept new ones; however, check their website regularly to see when apps reopen.

Those who want to give a car as a gift, however, can still do so. 1-800-Charity provides free towing and guarantees that 100% of donations are used to benefit people.

Cars that don’t work will be sold or repaired and given away.

If you want to apply for a donated car, you must meet a long list of criteria, including:

  • Work at least 30 hours a week or have a verified job offer
  • Possess a valid driver’s license in the state where you live
  • You do not have a DWI or DUI on your record.
  • Have the financial means to cover the ongoing costs of car ownership (insurance, fuel, repairs, etc.)
  • Ability to pay taxes, tags, and title fees

Vehicles for Change also runs a car award program for members of its partner social service and job readiness organizations.

The program supplies low-income families with auto and collateral low-interest loans. You cannot apply for this program; your caseworker or partner agency must do this on your behalf.
